#WednesdayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Mu Arae’s Setting”

In 4354, Jeffrey closed his study book. Before he could be put in charge of the wild red apricot field, Jeffrey had to pass a couple of minor classes.

In the late day, Mu Arae was setting and it was going to get dark soon. Before it did, Jeffrey open his Bible and read:

“‘Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.’

“Now in NIV, please.” The words morph on the paper pages before Jeffrey.

“‘In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.’ Amen.”

We return to our sci-fi hero Jeffrey thanks to today’s inspiration. For some reason, Ephesians 4:26 jumped out at me and so I took advantage. Enjoy this simple message!

#MondayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Rainier Sky”

“Little” Jeffrey P. Herbertson V pitched his illegal tent on Mount Rainier Global Park under Earth’s night sky, in 4347.

Jeffrey had left New Richmond because he had heard of a free, secular Earth. The truth is anything but freedom. Oppressive laws and recessional drugs at the going low price of your soul to the government. Jeffrey couldn’t even afford housing.

The stars were out in force that night. He could just make out Mu Arae b, which New Richmond orbits.

‘Maybe I’ll go to Mars.’ thought Jeffrey, drifting off to sleep. ‘I hear that they have plenty of work… there…’

Today’s inspiration is not today’s image, I’m afraid. I didn’t like today’s image and so I choose this past Saturday’s image. I also just noticed that I have been putting all my posts of the last few weeks in the “Personal” category, however now that is all fixed. Enjoy!

#MondayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Red Apricot”

Jeffrey was put in charge of the wild red apricot field just north of New Richmond’s capital in 4355. Jeffrey was mainly in charge of a lookout tower to watch for fires and make sure the various visitors didn’t get hurt or lost.

One early morning, Jeffrey was looking through his binoculars and spotted a woman skipping among the pink blossoms.

Jeffrey left the tower and was stuck by the woman’s beauty when he meet her. Fiery red hair, light spring dress, and a pink blossom in her hair.

“Hi! I am Amanda, and you are?” She said with a smile.

This is one of those times when 100 words worked against me. I had to shorten and reword stuff just to get it right. Again, we return to our sci-fi hero Jeffrey thanks to today’s inspiration as he meets the love of his life. Not too many sci-fi’y stuff happens, but I hope you enjoy!

#FridayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Jeffrey’s Good Life”

As the New Richmond cars flew over Jeffrey’s head in 4406, he kiss his wife’s forehead.

“Amanda,” Jeffrey asked his wife. “Have I lived a good, Godly life?”

“Jeff, of course!” answered Amanda looking shocked and tilted her head to look into his eyes. “What brought this on?”

“I didn’t always lead a Godly life.” confused Jeffrey. “I left New Richmond and went to the cesspool that is Earth. I thought freedom was there, but only discover the slavery of sin.”

“I know.” answered Amanda with a smile.

“How?” asked Jeffrey.

“You talk in your sleep.” answered Amanda with a kiss.

With today’s inspiration, we check in on the sci-fi epic hero Little Jeffrey towards the end of his life. Enjoy!

#WednesdayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Alnilam’s Glass Domes”

“Jeffrey P. Herbertson V, time for your report on Alnilam’s Glass Domes.”

“Yes, professor. Just within Alnilam’s habitable zone, lies a interesting planetoid completely covered in inhabitable water. The only natural structure on the planetoid is a fossilized plant that no one has been able to fully explain.

“So the first colonists to arrived took up the challenge and built The Two Grand Domes. As the population grew, more domes were built of varying sizes. From city size, to small villages, and even stand-alone mansions.

“To this very day, Alnilam’s Glass Domes is just one of The Seven Galactic Wonders.”

When I saw this image, the first thought that came to mind was domes. Don’t ask why, I don’t even know. I hope I sparked your imagination too. Enjoy!

#MondayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Rock Bottom”

In 4348, “Little” Jeffrey P. Herbertson V had hit rock bottom. And quite literally too.

He was now crossing Rock Bottom, Mars. A drying salt lake in the middle of nowhere. The Earth-controlled Martian Government has been trying to re-hydrate the lake with little success.

However Little Jeffrey did not know that. He had awaken after an epic drug binge and now has no idea how to get out of one of the last few deserts on Mars.

‘Oh God.’ thought Little Jeffrey to himself. ‘If you get me out of here, I will clean up and return home. I swear!’

Yes! You don’t know how happy I am with this short. In fact, I had to add words to bring me to the 100-word count. I feel those are my best. I took a look at today’s inspiration and I thought: Different world. So I once again take a look at a character and setting that I hope you enjoyed.

#FridayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Upon The Hill”

28-year-old “Little” Jeffrey P. Herbertson V wasn’t little anymore.

He himself had rebelled and ran off to Old Earth. After becoming disillusioned with the secular ‘cess pool’ of that world, Little Jeffrey has return to Mu Arae b‘s moon and independent human colony of New Richmond in late 4351.

Will he be welcomed back? Of course he would. Little Jeffrey open the one book he took with him and brought back. And read:

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” Closing the book he looked upon the city. “I’m home.”

There we go. Today’s inspiration allowed me to revisit the “Little Jeffrey” character. I have been putting it off, but I am going to start linking continuing or shared-universe stories using the tag system. This one and the other short will be placed in the “New Richmond” tag. Enjoy!

#FridayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Little Jeffrey”

4-year-old “Little” Jeffrey P. Herbertson V, will not know struggle. Jeffrey will know only freedom. He stood to watch Mu Arae b raise above the shiny city of New Richmond while eating his “Minion” birthday cookie.

In 4327, Jeffrey will not know the unbelievable luck that this moon existed. He will not know the staggering lift it was to move this moon to the right obit or the monumental terraforming efforts. Jeffrey only barely knew about the small war New Richmond fought for independence from Earth.

The toy rabbit robot hop around and Little Jeffrey laughed at his robot birthday gift.

Yep… YepYep… Yep…

Update: Oh my! Jimmie blew it out of the park with “When The Birds Slept” short, which is just pure awesomeness. I honestly want to see a full blown novel based off what Jimmie wrote.
