#FLSen: #PatrickMurphy Gets $1M #SuperPAC Boost …From Dad

Alt Headline: The Rep. Patrick Murphy Bailout

Because that is what it is:

Democratic Senate candidate Rep. Patrick Murphy (Fla.) is getting a major financial boost as his campaign heads into the final stretch, courtesy of a $1 million check from his father.

Thomas Murphy, a Florida home builder, gave the seven-figure sum to the Harry Reid-linked Senate Majority PAC – the group’s largest donation in July, according to the Federal Election Commission.

We all know Thomas Murphy is the financial muscle behind Patrick Murphy.

And oh, look who showed up in this article: Senator Harry Reid. I wonder why…

On July 15, two days after the $1 million check landed in the Senate Majority PAC account, the super-PAC announced to the Washington Post its plans to launch a $1 million ad buy in Florida.

The reported aim was to help Murphy win his primary on Aug. 30 against liberal challenger Rep. Alan Grayson, who is openly opposed by Democratic leadership.

Oh yeah right, Rep. Alan Grayson. What we have here is Thomas Murphy giving a knife to Harry Reid, who then stabs Grayson with said knife. The Alan Grayson/Harry Reid fight is just plain awesome and well documented on this site. You can read about it in their tags below.

There is a very small part of me that wishes that Alan Grayson win the Democratic Primary, because the Senator Marco Rubio* and Alan Grayson fight would totally be awesome. Sadly, the Marco Rubio/Patrick Murphy fight might be slightly one-sided**.

(gets on his knees)

Please God, please give the primary win to Alan Grayson. I don’t ask for much. Please enrich my life and give me some more Grayson. It will be a very boring general election here in Florida without Alan Grayson. Amen.

Well, see ya’ later!

#FLSen: The @AlanGrayson/@SenatorReid Fight, Round Two!

The “War Of Words” almost comes down to actual physical violence.

I’m sorry that my friend Moe Lane has forgone politics, because this newest Alan Grayson/Harry Reid development is just bloody fucking awesome and right up his ally:

Rep. Alan Grayson angrily confronted Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Wednesday, disrupting a meeting of the Congressional Progressive Caucus in front of dozens of staffers and members of Congress.

I could easily stop here. The summary of this story just tickles me to no end. However we must press on, because the details will just wonderful.

Grayson (D-Fla.), whose bid for the open Florida Senate seat Reid vehemently opposes, arrived at the meeting with Reid’s February statement in hand, according to two sources in the room. In that statement, Reid said Grayson has “no moral compass”…

Said the pot to the kettle:

Harry Reid, D-Nev. has no regrets about his 2012 claims that then presidential candidate Mitt Romney paid no taxes for 10 years.

The outgoing Senate Minority Leader even bragged to CNN that the comments, which had been described as McCarthyism, helped keep Romney from winning the election.

They can call it whatever they want. Romney didn’t win did he?” Reid said during a wide-ranging interview.

But, whatever. Moving on…

As each member took a turn to speak to Reid, it was Grayson’s turn. He asked Reid if the Nevada senator knows who he is. After Reid answered in the affirmative, Grayson went on the attack.

“Say my name, senator. Say my name,” Grayson told Reid…

…Err, Heisenberg?

Grayson responded by angrily waving a printout of Reid’s searing quote that called on Grayson to drop out of the primary race against Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.).

“Why’d you say that?” Grayson said, insisting Reid’s statement was false.

Reid calmly faced his inquisitor: “I want you to lose. It’s true.”

BOOM! There it is.

You know, there is a large contingent of grass-roots Republicans who think the party from on high wants to control who is nominated or not. That pails, however, for the open contempt Washington DC Democrats have for every day Democrats who have to fight it out in the trenches.

In a gaggle with reporters after the conflict blew up and sent shock waves through both sides of the Capitol, Grayson made clear that he believes a public battle with Reid – a “smearmonger” in his view – is to his advantage.

“Let’s face it, I’m not the establishment candidate. The establishment wants somebody who is a callow tool,” Grayson said. “As far as I can tell, the only criteria that the Democratic establishment has among Senate candidates this year is obedience. In that regard, perhaps I fall short.”

In a separate statement, Grayson called Murphy a “Republican sock puppet.”

Which is true. Rep. Patrick Murphy was a Republican until he “found” religion with the Democrats when he choose to capitalize on then-Senator Barack Obama’s win. If you are a Democrat and don’t think a Senator Murphy will betray you to President Trump, then I have a glass bridge in Dubai that I can cheaply sell you. At least with a Senator Alan Grayson, you know he’ll fight tooth and nail with President Trump and using his own game.

But what do I know. I am just a simple Republican.

Just for complete disclosure purposes, I fully endorse Lt Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera for the US Senate.

Well, see ya’ later!

#FLSen: The Great @AlanGrayson/@SenatorReid Slap Fight

There’s nothing more trilling than two morally challenged, white-male Democrats bitch slapping each other over …ethics.

Let’s set the stage here. Rep. Alan Grayson has been caught leading a double life as a Hedge Fund Manager, on the Cayman Islands. Now it is far from me to criticizing anyone who wants to make a buck, which is basically why I only tweeted about the subject. I just don’t like Rep. Alan Grayson’s politics.

(Via Hot Air) However Senator Harry Reid has taken exception to Rep Alan Grayson running for U.S. Senate:

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Friday called for U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson to drop out of the race for a Senate seat in Florida.

Reid said in a statement that Grayson claims to be progressive but seems to have “no moral compass.” He said Grayson used his office to unethically promote a hedge fund that until recently had been based in the Cayman Islands. …

“His actions aren’t just disgraceful to the Democratic Party, they disgrace the halls of Congress,” Reid said.

Moral compass? Ethics? Says the man who lied on the Senate floor to throw an election:

Harry Reid, D-Nev. has no regrets about his 2012 claims that then presidential candidate Mitt Romney paid no taxes for 10 years.

The outgoing Senate Minority Leader even bragged to CNN that the comments, which had been described as McCarthyism, helped keep Romney from winning the election.

They can call it whatever they want. Romney didn’t win did he?” Reid said during a wide-ranging interview.

Senator Harry Reid needs to make that self-awareness roll again, because he keeps failing it.

Of course, Mr. Florida Beastmode is not going to take this lying down:

Suggesting that Reid “may well prefer corrupt Establishment errand boy” and rival Democrat Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.), Grayson excoriated the retiring Nevada Senator in an email to Independent Journal Review:

I’m running against a rigged system and the Washington Establishment, so it’s no surprise that its departing figurehead, who failed so badly in the 2014 Senate races, relies on a false and misleading hyped story to try to pressure me out of this race. The reason why he is making such an absurd statement at all is that he knows that I’m well ahead in the polls, and heading for a strong primary victory.” …

“Sen. Reid managed to find a way to lose six out of seven open Senate seats in 2014, and lose six incumbent Democrats when the GOP lost none. Now he is personally attacking the clear choice of Florida Democrats, making the party into a circular firing squad.”

Yeah! You tell that has-been Senator Reid a thing or two, Rep. Grayson! Don’t let them suppress you! You are better than that, Grayson! No one tells Alan Grayson to go home or shut-up! Florida picks its nominees and not some Washington DC winkle-old white guy and Establishment errand boy! Show them were the sun shines, here in Florida and not DC!

Er… Sorry about that. Got excited. As a side note, I fully endorse Lt Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera for the US Senate.

Well, see ya’ later!

#FLSen: #EnviroWacko Endorses #FloridaMan For #Florida Race

There is not much going on in Florida’s US Senate race that this one almost flew under my radar. Moe Lane breaks down the nuts and bolts here:

Long-time ecological fanatic and general crazy person Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has endorsed Alan Grayson for the Florida Senate Democratic nomination. And very possibly Alan Grayson even wants this endorsement.

And Rep. Alan Grayson sure does want this endorsement, if for no other reason than to shore up his environmental street-creds. Sure he supported ACES Act Of 2009 (Cap And Trade Bill), but Grayson has done fuck all since. Now Alan Grayson can say that he is the “lone, true environmental defender” running for the Florida US Senate race and environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. agrees. With the Democrats shifting far to the left, this is a huge get.

Now Rep. Alan Grayson and super environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. can hammer Rep. Patrick Murphy for the Keystone XL pipeline vote. In fact, RFK Jr. mentions Keystone XL in his endorsement. I wish Murphy all the luck in countering and getting an environmentalist to endorse him. In fact, I would not be surprised to see more environmentalists start lining up behind Grayson.

I dare say Moe Lane understates the importance of this endorsement. This is a game changer. Rep. Alan Grayson now out-flanks Rep. Patrick Murphy on every level. This is like the Sanders/Clinton race, on the Florida state level.

As a side note, I endorse Lt Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera for the US Senate.

Well, see ya’ later!

#Trump2016: About That @USAFreedomKids’ @realDonaldTrump Jam

Now I have my issues with Donald Trump, but everyone is losing their damn minds over a …campaign rally song:

Where do I begin… Oh yeah, right: IT’S A SONG PEOPLE! THERE ARE PLENTY OTHER THINGS TO BASH TRUMP OVER THE HEAD WITH, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM!

Look, this is no different than getting a famous singer writing and preforming a song for any other candidate.

Allahpundit equates this with “mmm mmm mmm Barack Hussein Obama”, which I have problems with his logic:

If there was one thing missing from this primary, it was a Trump-nationalist version of the “mmm mmm mmm Barack Hussein Obama” video from 2009. Finally, that hole has been filled.

No it has not. I completely disagree with Allahpundit for a number of reasons.

  1. This was at a campaign event, not at a school.
  2. This was clearly meant to entertain people who are already Trump supporters, not to indoctrinate other kids.
  3. This was done on Trump’s dime, not the taxpayer’s dime.

In fact, USA Freedom Kids has five members and I only see three. I could be wrong, but I can only assume that two of the five parents were not okay with this and they were pulled. This only seems healthy to me.

Granted the lyrics are a little eye-rolling, but by losing your minds over this song is even more eye-rolling and will force Trump supporters to just further circle the wagon. If you had a stronger case of indoctrination, I would side with you.

I mean, this is a nothing burger people! You people are annoying me that I have to defend Trump here! We dress our kids in our own favorite sport teams, we take our kids to see candidates, we home school our children to teach them our values, and we somehow have a problem with this?

Well, see ya’ later!

Anti-#Gerrymandering Laws Are A Joke …Part Three!

(Via Moe Lane) Apparently, the DCCC agrees with me that redistricting should be a political exercise:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee was involved in reviewing maps submitted Tuesday to the court by one group of plaintiffs challenging the state’s congressional districts.

…The second group of plaintiffs, led by the League of Women Voters and Common Cause, also filed three sets of redrawn congressional maps with the courts. In its filing, it says it used Strategic Telemetry – a firm started by Ken Strasman, targeting director for President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign – to draw its maps.

That firm counts the Democratic National Committee and the Florida Democratic Party among its other clients, and it worked on an effort to recall Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.

Strategic Telemetry, the DCCC and NCEC had previously been involved in helping plaintiffs draw the maps that were submitted during the 2014 redistricting trial. At that time, though, they were exhibits, and the court was not considering them for implementation. Later this month, as the case again returns to the courts, Judge Terry Lewis will consider whether or not to make the maps law.

So the Democrats drew these maps alone. However the Democrats are not the ruling party here in Florida. This short circuits the basic ideals of a representative republic in every way possible. The good people of Florida overwhelmingly elected a Republican executive branch and legislative branch, yet somehow they get to rewrite the redistricting maps? Am I the insane one to think this isn’t right?

With these facts and more staring us right in the face, enough is enough. Anti-gerrymandering laws were never a good idea. And they will never be a good idea, ever!

Well, see ya’ later!

Both #BigRideshare And #BigTaxi Need To Drop Dead

The state of Florida doesn’t have any state-wide Taxi regulation. They have left it to the counties city governments to set policy. That is about to change:

Developments in the battle over regulating new, freelance-based ride-for-hire companies in Florida are coming fast and furious this month.

Taxi companies from Broward County and Tallahassee twice sued the state over its handling of Uber and Lyft last week, while Gov. Rick Scott went on record Wednesday as agreeing with several South Florida legislators that uniform statewide rules are needed.

Fuck that noise. It would end independent taxis in Florida as we know it.

Before I go into how bad of an idea this fucking is, I would like to note that the conservative movement shouldn’t be so quick to throw their support Uber or Lyft. Sure they are taking a knife to unions with their business model, but we are trading local monopolies for a possible global monopoly. There will come a point that you will have to join Uber or Lyft or die. Once in power, they would be hiring lobbyists to make rules favorable to them just like the Taxi cartels are doing now. I will dub this new cartel “Big Rideshare”. On top of everything, the top brass of these companies are ultra-progressive people. They do not share your conservative ideals. They’ll take your money and turn around to make government bigger (more on that later).

You think “Big Rideshare” cares about drivers or jobs? In fact, Travis Kalanick, Uber’s CEO, is looking to put even his own drivers out of work:

Less than 24 hours after Google unveiled its autonomous prototype, the CEO of ride-sharing service Uber, Travis Kalanick, said driverless cars will make cars cheaper to rent than to own. “When there’s no other dude [driver] in the car, the cost of taking Uber anywhere becomes cheaper than owning a vehicle.”

I can go on and on how these driverless cars will rob Americans of their independence, which I will go into now. I am all for innovation, but innovation that does our thinking for us and put humans out of control is seriously flawed idea. A “kill switch” isn’t going to do you much good going 70MPH on the interstate or if someone hacks the car and you have seconds to react. And as Travis Kalanick puts it, driverless cars will be priced out of the hands of the average American and he will already in a well placed position to take advantage. I can see Google and Uber uniting to make driverless cars MANDATORY. If the government can force us to buy health insurance at the point of a gun, for our own good, then they can do the same with driverless cars.

But I have digress far enough.

The conservative movement have been looking at this the wrong way. They see the mega-corps of Uber and Lyft as a good way of dealing a blow to Big Taxi and Big Government regulations. Instead, it just might have the opposite effect:

Developments in the battle over regulating new, freelance-based ride-for-hire companies in Florida are coming fast and furious this month.

Taxi companies from Broward County and Tallahassee twice sued the state over its handling of Uber and Lyft last week, while Gov. Rick Scott went on record Wednesday as agreeing with several South Florida legislators that uniform statewide rules are needed.

Rules and laws design to satisfied both Big Rideshare and Big Taxi, but small independent taxis in Florida will be put out of business.

I would like to note that Big Rideshare and Big Taxi are only in the big cities. The rideshare companies refuse to do any business in Lake County, trust me, I check. In the suburb and rural area of Lake County, we are independent of the Big Taxi cartels. Lake County, last time I check, was completely free of any taxi regulation. All you need is the standard business license. I mean, you would want to get insured and bonded, but the driver might want to do that for their own protection.

If we are going to set rules state-wide, why can’t we de-regulate instead? Independent driver or company, all you need is a standard business license. No more pick-up boundaries or price-fixing or cab requirements. If you are not insured and/or bonded, you must informed the person riding in the car. There, I have just made everyone happy. There are some requirements so that anyone who wants to get into the business takes it seriously, while setting the bar low enough for anyone to jump in. The free market will take it’s course and weed out the dumb and weak.

It is not going to happen, because once government gets involved, then things get fucked up.

Well, see ya’ later!

Anti-#Gerrymandering Laws Are A Joke …Update

Since I put out my article a couple days ago, I have found others who also see anti-gerrymandering laws wanting.

Jeff Guo looks at the laws of the different states and the stone-cold implications of anti-gerrymandering laws, and notes the “sore loser” problem that has arisen:

Independent redistricting commissions are supposed to curb gerrymandering but most lack full control of the redistricting process. Some are restricted to making suggestions, which legislatures can vote down or amend. Others step in only after the legislature has stalemated. Like the filibuster, the power of redistricting is a political tool that both parties are loath to give up. Legislatures in 42 states still have the final say when it comes to determining districts for House seats in Congress. And in 37 states, legislators control the redistricting process for their own state legislative districts. …

Despite the cautionary measures, these committees have been the site of considerable partisan bitterness. There have been allegations that the non-partisan members on the commission secretly favor one side, and that the technical staff assisting the commissions introduced bias into the process. For these and other reasons, the resulting district plans have consistently been challenged in court. As political scientist Bruce Cain writes:

[R]edistricting is bedeviled by the sore loser problem: because new district lines can determine the electoral fates of candidates, political parties, and interest groups, it is usually worth their time and effort to overturn a plan that they do not like for the uncertain prospect of something better.

Which has happen everywhere, not just in Florida, so-called anti-gerrymandering laws have been in enacted.

Philip Bump actually crunched some numbers and further argues that anti-gerrymandering laws haven’t had their intended effect anyway:

Gerrymandering is a game of increments, not sweeping change. If the goal has been to solidify districts as Democratic or Republican to make it easier for incumbents to win handily, that doesn’t appear to have happened widely. If, instead, the goal is to pick up a seat here or there — as was certainly the plan in Florida — that has likely been more successful.

But the idea that we’ve moved away from some golden era of hard-fought contests between cigar-chompin’ politicians simply isn’t true. As these maps of the results of the six races above make clear, elections have always been a mix of close and landslide contests. The average margins of victory in our 435 House races remains pretty consistent.

You don’t like the outcome of new district lines? Sue, alleging corruption in the redistricting process. You don’t need proof of corruption, just so long as you have a good lawyer and a lot of money. Anti-gerrymandering laws are not even working. The only real winners of anti-gerrymandering laws seem to be bottom feeding lawyers.

With these facts staring us right in the face, enough is enough. Anti-gerrymandering laws was never a good idea. They will never be a good idea.

Well, see ya’ later!

Anti-#Gerrymandering Laws Are A Joke

The current madness of subjecting political districts to lawsuits in Florida, has got to stop.

Redistricting, by definition, is a purely political exercise and should NOT be subject to judicial review. These are not geographic or governing boundaries, but political boundaries. We need to draw these lines once and be done with it every ten years.

I got into a debate with a friend of mine on another site and she/he offered this gold nugget:

This is one of the reasons I favor rules-based geometric districts, even if they do tend to get ugly in other ways…

Start by determining how many of Florida’s 20 million residents are citizens and eligible to vote, then divide that by 27, one per rep.

Starting from a geographical center point – let’s say downtown Okahumpka – draw a line due north.

Draw a second line north-northeast such that it encompasses 1/27th of the population of Florida … this should probably encompass a good bit of Jacksonville and St. Augustine.

Proceed to draw additional lines so that each wedge-shaped district contains 1/27th of the eligible-to-vote citizens of Florida.

This allows majority-minority districts to be created, they’ll be fairly thin wedges and will encompass enough non-urban areas that the reps *cannot* simply ignore ’em.

You know, this sounds like a great idea, but this would honestly still be challenged in the courts.

Any rule-based drawing would be subject to court rulings. Even if it was drawn by a computer, some judge would find fault with it. Part-time state legislators have better things to do than to be called into special sessions to redraw districts every year.

It was never a good idea. It will never be a good idea.

Well, see ya’ later!

#PPSellsBabyParts: @AHCA_FL Find Violations At 4 #Florida #PPFA Clinics

(Via Moe Lane) Because, as my therapist once told me, why the hell not:

The Agency for Health Care Administration released a report saying clinics in St. Petersburg, Fort Myers and Naples were performing second-trimester abortions when they were only licensed to perform first-trimester abortions. The report also found that a Pembroke Pines clinic was not following its own procedures for the labeling and dating of the disposal of fetal remains. …

Gov. Rick Scott ordered the inspections last week. He said he was troubled by recent videos describing the organization’s procedures for providing tissue from aborted fetuses for research.

“We did the right thing in our state by making sure they are complying with the law,” Scott said during a Florida Cabinet meeting Wednesday.

…”The videos are pretty disturbing. So the right thing to do is to let the public know we are responding by doing an investigation to make sure they are complying with the law. It’s against the law to sell body parts.”

The human meat clinics’ defense was that of bureaucratic red tape and changing laws. However that didn’t stop the other 12 human meat clinics (that we know of) from following the laws. Whatever. Live by the regulatory state and die by the regulatory state, amirite?

The only comforting thought that allows me sleep at night this past week, is knowing there will be justice, true justice, on the other side. I don’t have to deliver it here. I will continue to speak out against these “things” at PPFA that pass themselves off as human and the sins they commit. However I will trust in God that they will not make it pass the Gates of Heaven.

Well, see ya’ later!
