And oh, look who showed up in this article: Senator Harry Reid. I wonder why…
On July 15, two days after the $1 million check landed in the Senate Majority PAC account, the super-PAC announced to the Washington Post its plans to launch a $1 million ad buy in Florida.
The reported aim was to help Murphy win his primary on Aug. 30 against liberal challenger Rep. Alan Grayson, who is openly opposed by Democratic leadership.
Oh yeah right, Rep. Alan Grayson. What we have here is Thomas Murphy giving a knife to Harry Reid, who then stabs Grayson with said knife. The Alan Grayson/Harry Reid fight is just plain awesome and well documented on this site. You can read about it in their tags below.
There is a very small part of me that wishes that Alan Grayson win the Democratic Primary, because the Senator Marco Rubio* and Alan Grayson fight would totally be awesome. Sadly, the Marco Rubio/Patrick Murphy fight might be slightly one-sided**.
(gets on his knees)
Please God, please give the primary win to Alan Grayson. I don’t ask for much. Please enrich my life and give me some more Grayson. It will be a very boring general election here in Florida without Alan Grayson. Amen.
The “War Of Words” almost comes down to actual physical violence.
I’m sorry that my friend Moe Lane has forgone politics, because this newest Alan Grayson/Harry Reid development is just bloody fucking awesome and right up his ally:
Rep. Alan Grayson angrily confronted Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Wednesday, disrupting a meeting of the Congressional Progressive Caucus in front of dozens of staffers and members of Congress.
I could easily stop here. The summary of this story just tickles me to no end. However we must press on, because the details will just wonderful.
Grayson (D-Fla.), whose bid for the open Florida Senate seat Reid vehemently opposes, arrived at the meeting with Reid’s February statement in hand, according to two sources in the room. In that statement, Reid said Grayson has “no moral compass”…
Said the pot to the kettle:
Harry Reid, D-Nev. has no regrets about his 2012 claims that then presidential candidate Mitt Romney paid no taxes for 10 years.
The outgoing Senate Minority Leader even bragged to CNN that the comments, which had been described as McCarthyism, helped keep Romney from winning the election.
Grayson responded by angrily waving a printout of Reid’s searing quote that called on Grayson to drop out of the primary race against Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.).
“Why’d you say that?” Grayson said, insisting Reid’s statement was false.
Reid calmly faced his inquisitor: “I want you to lose. It’s true.”
BOOM! There it is.
You know, there is a large contingent of grass-roots Republicans who think the party from on high wants to control who is nominated or not. That pails, however, for the open contempt Washington DC Democrats have for every day Democrats who have to fight it out in the trenches.
In a gaggle with reporters after the conflict blew up and sent shock waves through both sides of the Capitol, Grayson made clear that he believes a public battle with Reid – a “smearmonger” in his view – is to his advantage.
“Let’s face it, I’m not the establishment candidate. The establishment wants somebody who is a callow tool,” Grayson said. “As far as I can tell, the only criteria that the Democratic establishment has among Senate candidates this year is obedience. In that regard, perhaps I fall short.”
In a separate statement, Grayson called Murphy a “Republican sock puppet.”
Which is true. Rep. Patrick Murphy was a Republican until he “found” religion with the Democrats when he choose to capitalize on then-Senator Barack Obama’s win. If you are a Democrat and don’t think a Senator Murphy will betray you to President Trump, then I have a glass bridge in Dubai that I can cheaply sell you. At least with a Senator Alan Grayson, you know he’ll fight tooth and nail with President Trump and using his own game.
But what do I know. I am just a simple Republican.
Senator Harry Reid needs to make that self-awareness roll again, because he keeps failing it.
Of course, Mr. Florida Beastmode is not going to take this lying down:
Suggesting that Reid “may well prefer corrupt Establishment errand boy” and rival Democrat Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.), Grayson excoriated the retiring Nevada Senator in an email to Independent Journal Review:
“I’m running against a rigged system and the Washington Establishment, so it’s no surprise that its departing figurehead, who failed so badly in the 2014 Senate races, relies on a false and misleading hyped story to try to pressure me out of this race. The reason why he is making such an absurd statement at all is that he knows that I’m well ahead in the polls, and heading for a strong primary victory.” …
“Sen. Reid managed to find a way to lose six out of seven open Senate seats in 2014, and lose six incumbent Democrats when the GOP lost none. Now he is personally attacking the clear choice of Florida Democrats, making the party into a circular firing squad.”
And Rep. Alan Grayson sure does want this endorsement, if for no other reason than to shore up his environmental street-creds. Sure he supported ACES Act Of 2009 (Cap And Trade Bill), but Grayson has done fuck all since. Now Alan Grayson can say that he is the “lone, true environmental defender” running for the Florida US Senate race and environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. agrees. With the Democrats shifting far to the left, this is a huge get.
Now Rep. Alan Grayson and super environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. can hammer Rep. Patrick Murphy for the Keystone XL pipeline vote. In fact, RFK Jr. mentions Keystone XL in his endorsement. I wish Murphy all the luck in countering and getting an environmentalist to endorse him. In fact, I would not be surprised to see more environmentalists start lining up behind Grayson.
I dare say Moe Lane understates the importance of this endorsement. This is a game changer. Rep. Alan Grayson now out-flanks Rep. Patrick Murphy on every level. This is like the Sanders/Clinton race, on the Florida state level.
Today, Hillary Clinton joined Barack Obama in sad political capitulation to the Castro Regime. For over 50 years, Fidel and Raul Castro have presided over a police state of where the most basic human rights are abridged, where they and their cronies are enriched, and where the regime has been a known state sponsor of terrorism.
Right on, Lt. Governor! Lopez-Cantera then goes criticizes a part of Hillary Clinton’s speech:
Mrs. Clinton also had the audacity to mention the Ladies in White today, but failed to acknowledge that abuses against them have increased since President Obama’s concessions. Lifting the trade embargo with Cuba may actually make the situation worse for the Ladies in White and other Cuban pro-democracy forces. It will do nothing but fund the machinery of violent oppression that has seen members of the Ladies in White beaten and imprisoned. Her moral blindness on Cuba is almost worse than that of President Obama; at least her husband understood the need to maintain the trade embargo against the dictatorship.
Hillary Clinton made it clear today she wants to reward the Castros, but asks for nothing in return. As she surely knows, any economic benefit flowing to Cuba as the result of ending the trade embargo will not go to the Cuban people, but will enrich the Castro tyranny and cement their despotic hold on power.
A conversation about the future of Cuba is vital, but for me, the conversation must start by putting the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Cuban people first, not the desires of Fidel and Raul Castro.
If Hillary Clinton wants to bury her head in the sand about the reality of Cuba, I am thankful that we have in Carlos Lopez-Cantera a person who can tell us the truth. That is why I support him and you should too.
Lt. Governor Lopez-Cantera earned from the Christian Family Coalition another 100% for Religion, Marriage, Family, and Children. You know that Lopez-Cantera is a Christian family man and that’s awesome in any book!
I am pleased to support my friend and fellow conservative Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera in this vital election for U.S. Senate. Carlos has a proven record of success on behalf of Floridians who seek less taxes, less government and more job creation.
Right on! I don’t know about you, but I am excited about Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera! We honestly don’t need to hold out for a conservative hero, because here he is and he’s larger than life.
I’m excited. I have been waiting for Lt. Gov. Carlos López-Cantera to throw his hat into the U.S. Senate race for some time now. Since he has made it official, I will throw my total support to López-Cantera. When Sen. Marco Rubio finally announced that he was going to run for POTUS instead of re-election, my mind quickly went to López-Cantera as my first choice to replace Rubio.
I would have put out endorsement for Lt. Gov. Carlos López-Cantera earlier, however events conspired against me to push it back until now. Still, it was worth the wait:
“Conservative principles work,” says López-Cantera, adding he will take the same ideas to Washington to control “government spending and government power.” …
Speaking in English and Spanish to supporters at a rally Wednesday (July 15th) afternoon, López-Cantera pledged to follow Rubio’s lead to fight for Florida in Washington. He also said he would continue to push for democracy in Cuba and Venezuela, and to protect Israel.
The crowd chanted “Carlos, Carlos, Carlos,” with some holding handmade signs that read “Viva, Carlos” and “Conservatives for Carlos.”
“He’s an honest man,” said 60-year-old James Williams, 60, of Miami, a longtime friend of López-Cantera who attended the rally. “You don’t get that anymore in Washington.”
I will grant you that Lt. Gov. Carlos López-Cantera’s campaign site is sparse of issues and positions. I hope that changes in the near future, since we need to know more about him. I’m sure he is sitting down with his campaign staff and advisors right now, nailing them down. However I can tell you the story of López-Cantera and why he sparks my imagination if you will let me. I can tell you from what I gleam from his Florida House Profile.
The first thing that jumps out for anyone about Carlos López-Cantera, is that he was born in Spain. He doesn’t hide this fact whatsoever. So the US Senate is as far as López-Cantera is going for now (Yay!). He is not only Cuban, but López-Cantera is actually also of Jewish descent too. Wow, this guy is the total package.
The next thing that jumps out to you, is that fact that Lt. Gov. Carlos López-Cantera is not a lawyer. He’s a real estate agent. This is quite refreshing. You can’t randomly throw a rock at any governing body without hitting a lawyer. López-Cantera is the odd man out here. His University of Miami bachelor’s degree is of business administration with a minor in political science. So I consider López-Cantera a business man and not a lawyer.
Lt. Gov. Carlos López-Cantera was elected in 2004 in Miami area Florida House district, until he was termed out in 2012. He was only able to get as high as Majority Leader in the Florida House. Then he went on to become Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser until he was tapped by Gov. Rick Scott to serve as Florida’s Lieutenant Governor. He does have both legislative and executive experience, which should prove useful to López-Cantera in the US Senate. The lieutenant governor has also won elections in very liberal county, so López-Cantera has election experience there.
On his Florida House profile page Carlos López-Cantera lists fishing, hunting, and water sports as his recreational interests. I don’t know how much more red-blooded American you can get.
In the Democratic primary for Florida’s open U.S. Senate seat, liberal Alan Grayson jumped ahead of his more moderate opponent, fellow Congressman Patrick Murphy, according to new survey released from St. Pete Polls and commissioned by Florida Politics.
The first statewide survey of the Democratic Senate race since Grayson formally announced his campaign found Grayson leading Murphy by nearly seven points – 30 to 23 percent. Just over 17 percent said “someone else,” and 22 percent are undecided.
Political newcomer Pam Keith, a Navy veteran and corporate attorney, comes in third at 8 percent.
Excellent! Let’s break down some numbers, shall we?
Alan Grayson’s favorability is 38/19. Grayson has a lead in Orlando (57-14), Miami-Dade (24-23), Tampa (27-18), Pensacola (26-19) and Panama City (31-6). Grayson’s support comes from a five point lead with white voters, a sixteen point lead with black voters, and a twenty-six point lead with voters age 18-29.
Patrick Murphy’s favorability is 34/15. Murphy has a lead in West Palm Beach (65-15) and Jacksonville (20-16). Murphy leads Grayson with voters ages 30-49 by ten points.
It turns out Florida Democrats don’t want a former Republican after all. Patrick Murphy has a very tall hill to climb. He might be able to break into Miami-Dade area, but he has a long road elsewhere. Murphy has the support of older Democrats, but no one else. It is still a long road for both until August 2016, but Patrick Murphy starts out in a very bad spot.
I’m super excited right now! My friend and all around “Florida Man” Alan Grayson looks like he will be the Democrats nominee in 2016!
After months of hand-wringing by the Democratic Party establishment and cheerleading by members of the party’s progressive wing, U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Orlando, is expected to announce Thursday whether he’ll challenge Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Jupiter, in a 2016 Senate primary.
Dear Lord in Heaven forgive me, can I get a bigger hard-on right now? Will all my dreams come true?
“Murphy’s people should be scared because the problem with Alan Grayson is he just doesn’t give a damn,” said Screven Watson, a longtime Democratic consultant based in Tallahassee.
“Grayson doesn’t do things the way normal candidates do them. His campaigns aren’t normal campaigns. He can raise so much money on the Internet that he’s only second to people like President Obama,” Watson said. “There have been liberal candidates who have run statewide before in Florida, but not like Alan Grayson.”
Grayson, who would not comment for this story, rocketed to fame in progressive circles as a House freshman in 2009 for saying in a floor speech that the GOP’s Obamacare alternative was really a slogan: “Don’t Get Sick! And If You Do Get Sick, Die Quickly!” Grayson became a darling of the left, appearing scores of times on MSNBC and becoming a repeat guest on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” where the congressman once received a standing ovation from the liberal crowd for explaining the Occupy Wall Street movement.
I better pace myself, because general all-around bastard John Morgan has decided to make this personal:
(Rep Alan) Grayson’s friend, trial lawyer John Morgan, told Local 6 on Wednesday that Grayson told him face-to-face that he is running for Senate. …
“I think it’s political suicide because Alan … in a very safe district, has a great voice with progressives, but that’s totally different — a primary election is totally different than a general election in Florida,” Morgan said (to Rep. Grayson).
Are you going to let that kind of trash talking go, Grayson?
“I think Morgan should lay off the scotch, at least until noon,” (Rep Alan) Grayson said of (John) Morgan’s reaction.
War Were Declared! That’s my boy, Grayson! You tell them, tell them all! You hold nothing back and you take no prisoners! Take crap from no one, even from an ambulance chasing, unethical creep like Morgan!
No one really likes John Morgan anyway. Drive around Orlando/Tampa Bay area and randomly talk to ten people and you will likely hear ten stories of how much of an awful human being John Morgan is right now. You must not live in Orlando/Tampa Bay area if you think highly of John Morgan in any meaningful way. If you are his friend, it is likely you are only his friend for the money. If Morgan throws his support behind Rep. Patrick Murphy, I expect nothing less than Rep. Alan Grayson jumping all over Morgan’s support for marijuana peddling. This Grayson/Morgan fight helps Murphy in no meaningful way. I look forward to this epic clash of Titians!
I think Rep. Alan Grayson, or someone close to Grayson, has heard me talk how Grayson should play up Rep. Patrick Murphy being a Republican in the past. In the raw video of the resent Grayson interview, he brings this up for the first time (as far as I know). To be brutally honest, it is not hard to find out Patrick Murphy used to dry hump Mitt Romney’s leg back in the day and you will have to be willfully ignorant if you do not know this already.
Awesome. If Rep. Patrick Murphy thought he was going to cake-walk to the nomination, he has another thing coming. That other thing is Rep. Alan Grayson and I don’t think Murphy knows what is about to hit him. Murphy is also caught in a rock and a hard place. If Murphy hits hard on Grayson, he risks losing progressive grassroots support. If Murphy ignores or goes easy on Grayson, he risks a pump-up progressives smelling weak blood.
Rep. Alan Grayson (D., Fla.) is finding himself in hot water over managing hedge funds that bear his name, actions that are in possible violation of House ethics rules.
Sitting members of Congress are prohibited from using their name in titles of entities for personal financial gain, Politico reports. Rep. Grayson has three hedge funds with his name attached to their title.
Shame. It was fun while it lasted. I really wish he could have made it to the General Election. It would have been much more fun than covering the former Republican Patrick Murphy.
