#FridayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “The Kingfisher Shooter”

“So it was a 600 meter shot.”

“The Kingfisher Shot.”

“The what now?! What’re you on about.”

“The Kingfisher Shot is what I like to call a 600 meter shot. There is an old WWII legend I read where a sniper, after waiting three hours for his target, attracted the attention of two Common Kingfisher who perched on his scope.”

“Fascinating. How does that help us?”

“It gives us the name of this killer. Two US Representatives kill by a sniper who can shoot 600 meters. He’s just crying out for a name.”

“The Kingfisher Shooter. We can call him that for now.”

I know that’s supposed to be a camera scope in today’s inspiration, but I couldn’t help but see a sniper’s scope instead. Also, I see my friend Jimmie Bise posted his short story today. So nice to see him. I hope he does more. Enjoy!

#WednesdayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Floating Puffball Cats”

Of course they were going to be a problem. I mean, did no one not see what was coming? Really?

It seemed like a cute idea to everyone, making cats float. Even Dr. Klemens Harrendorf, from the few random notes we recovered from his burned down lab, didn’t think much harm would come from cats floating a few feet off the ground.

It was novel at first. The new breed was well loved. They became the must own pet of the year.

That was until they started floating higher. Then the horror hit humanity as they soon started to explode.

I hated Bing’s image today. I looked at that flower for hours before giving up. Then I search the internet for a weird picture and found this gem. Enjoy!

#MondayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Carpathian’s Prey”

The Ukrainian hunter knelt at the Red Deer’s snow tracks. Next to the deer’s prints, he saw another set of tracks follow the Red Deer.

‘Lynx.’ thought the hunter. The hunter pressed on, hoping that he could get to the Red Deer before the Lynx could.

He got to the Red Deer with its throat ripped, dying. The Ukrainian looked for the Lynx, but nowhere to be seen.

As the hunter went for the Red Deer’s meat, he heard a growl coming from a near-by bush.

The hunter turned his gun toward the Lynx as it leap toward the Ukrainian.

And scene! Hate to leave you on a cliff-hanger like that based off today’s inspiration, but life is full of disappoints. Enjoy!

She should have used poison. But no, she wanted to get up close and personal.

The poacher hit the ground. Even with two ribs broken, she quickly pick up his rifle and aimed it at the matriarch that just sent her flying.

The poacher and the matriarch stared at each other’s eyes. A calf suddenly appeared and the poacher.

“Alright,” said the poacher, slowly lowering the rifle. “I’m done.”

The calf’s trunk felt up the matriarch and then ran back to the rest of the herd.

The poacher found herself breathing heavily as she slowly backed away from the matriarch.

Not only is today is World Elephant Day and today’s inspiration, but this is the 100th 100-Word-Challenge. I hope you enjoy!

#WednesdayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Apprentice’s Stairs”

After walking for an hour, the old wizard stopped before a rocky canyon with stairs that open up into the mountains.

“Okay boy, you want to be my apprentice?” After the young man nodded, the wizard continued. “Then walk up the stairs.”

“That’s it?” asked the young man.

The wizard didn’t answer, but got out his pipe and leaned against the rock face to smoke.

The young man climbed the stairs. After an hour, the young man almost ran into the wizard. Looking around, he realize he was at the beginning of the stairs.

“Now we begin, my young apprentice.”

Today’s inspiration, we check back in with our old wizard and his apprentice. Enjoy!

#MondayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Hospitaller vs Templar”

In the distance from Mar Saba, a Knight Hospitaller and a Knight Templar stood before each other in full battle dress.

“It’s time you pay for your blasphemous words-” started the Templar before being cut off by his rival.

“Don’t pretend this is anything but settling old scores, Templar pig filth!” The Templar bristled at this insult. The Hospitaller continued. “But know that whoever wins, returns to the War Of Saint Sabas with a win for his order!”

“Agreed! Let this be our final battle!”

Both drawing their swords, they raised their weapons and charged at each other in anger.

Via today’s inspiration, a Knight Hospitaller and a Knight Templar faced off during the War Of Saint Sabas. This is actually very fascinating to me. I wonder if the Knights Hospitaller and Knights Templar ever fought each other before or after. Well, enjoy!

#WednesdayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Mu Arae’s Setting”

In 4354, Jeffrey closed his study book. Before he could be put in charge of the wild red apricot field, Jeffrey had to pass a couple of minor classes.

In the late day, Mu Arae was setting and it was going to get dark soon. Before it did, Jeffrey open his Bible and read:

“‘Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.’

“Now in NIV, please.” The words morph on the paper pages before Jeffrey.

“‘In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.’ Amen.”

We return to our sci-fi hero Jeffrey thanks to today’s inspiration. For some reason, Ephesians 4:26 jumped out at me and so I took advantage. Enjoy this simple message!

#MondayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “Lioness Gossip”

“I hear there’s a nomad roaming the edges of our pride.”

“Male nomad?”

“Yes, older sister.”

“Interesting. Our eldest male is kind of slow of late. Go ahead and send him smaller sister. Middle sister?”

“Do you wish for me to go with him, older sister?”

“Yes. If eldest male fends off this challenge, good for him. If this nomad should win-”

“Oh, older sister, may I have him? I am ready to have cubs of my own!”

“That seems most acceptable, smaller sister.”

“I love you, older sister!”

“As do I, older sister!”

“As I love you both, sisters!”

You know, I’ve been bitching about Bing’s image selection of late. They’re beautiful, but ultimately I have a to find a story for it. Today inspiration, at last, was different. This image told me that these lionesses were talking to each other. What they talked about, was my work. Enjoy!

#FridayFiction: #100WordChallenge | “The E-Wing Workshop”

“Oh my goodness, Adorellan.” said Santa Claus putting his gloved hand over his nose. “How long has E-Wing been abandon?”

“Fifty years, sir.” answered Adorellan behind his clipboard.

“Well, I want it up and running again in a month.” said Santa. “With Pokémon Go as popular as it is, we are going to be flooded with Pokémon toy requests.”

Santa started to leave, but Adorellan stood his ground.

“Yes…” said Santa Claus nervously. Santa noticed Adorellan was on his smart phone.

Adorellan put his smart phone away. “Nothing!”

“Then come, Adorellan. We have much to do until Christmas time comes!”

Friend Moe Lane put up a challenge. I took it and ran with it. It was refreshing, because Bing has begun to bore me. I hope you enjoy!
