"God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ... What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure." - Thomas Jefferson
Looking at Iran's resent history, they seem to have taken Thomas Jefferson's words to heart. The resent unrest in Iran has me interested and I notice something while watching the many videos of the protests. Both protestors and police seem to be in a rock throwing contest with each other. ((Update: There now have been deaths. Via Moe Lane.)) While this might be slightly amusing, it got me thinking. When has a revolution ever been bloodless?
Surely you will agree that the American Revolution and the Civil War was very bloody. And the French Revolution was a blood-bath. The worest reported death toll in Iran's last revolution was over 60,000.
This is why the Second Amendment is so important to us Americans. When the shit hits the fan, we must be prepared with our own arms to defend ourselves one way or the other. I personally don't own a gun myself (yet) but I do not begrudge anyone who wants to arm themselves. If it's to defend against a criminal or a rebillion or the government, the individual has every right to do so.
I just would like to reaffirm this website's support for the Second Amendment. I can understand regulating fire arms, but an out-right ban is unacceptable in my views.
On a more personal note, I am still looking for a job. An Aflac agent told me resently that he thinks that I may be a good fit. I am going to check that out.
Well, see ya' later!
