Codexed Moves

August 25, 2008

So after writing my last entry, I got curious at how the blow hards at Codexed.com were doing. I must say, I am very surprised that they actually started to move forward.

However, the irony is now complete. I was critical right off the back that they were trying to bite off more than they could cew. Their first mission was to get DX Code back up and running so they could take their sweet time to create a unique Codexed PHP coded site based off how DX worked, scraped with little fanfare. Then they worked endlessly on the forum (time they could have better spent on actually coding a website) and the "DeveloWiki" (which was a also a big waste of time), and then when I complain, do they listen to me? Not one bit. However they make up rules just so they could be ban me. I mean, they couldn't get anything done and they blamed me instead of looking at their own failings.

Now that they have made some progress, let's look at how they keep failing. I will first look at how they taken my advice, then how they are going to ruin the great memory of DX. Let me count the ways:

1) They have stopped work on the forum (that nopost crap could have been easily delt with by just banning me) and the DeveloWiki hasn't been touch in who knows how long. Good, they were both epic distractions. Once the bullshitting had stop, work apparently got done.

2) They also seem to abandon the "all-in-one" deal. The New New (how many did they have?) Milestone seems to suggest a slow build-up of features, unlike other Milestones they put out. I had always thought that they should have put out the simple old DX Perl code and then role out sweeping changes. This just seems like an logical conclusion of this line of thought.

3) Daniel has dump PHP in exchanged for something called Ruby. This is an epic failure on their part, because they made such a big deal out of coding Codexed with PHP. So again, they scapped any work they did and started over. This time, they didn't even brother to post it in their development forum.

4) Friends and other such LiveJournal nonsense seems to now be off the table. Update (12/25/2008): My bad. The idea is that DX was supposed to be different. If we are trying to clone LiveJournal, MySpace, and FaceBook, why would people want to come to Codexed? Why do they want to come to Codexed when they can get a dumb down version somewhere else?

5) By Milestone Two, they start fucking with shit that will ruin what made DX great. First, they have "View multiple entries at once." Can you say, blog? If I want to blog, I'll now go to RedState.com. Even while against the idea, I suggested that if they were going to go down that path, it should be done with substitutions (if they do go that route and don't credit me the idea, I'm going to be pissed) and not a feature that can be turn on or off. Codexed should not be dumb-down just so they can gain a few more users. My seconded issue has to do with introducing Categories. I thought people in your target group is looking to write Diary's or Journals, not blogs?

From what I gleem from the Alpha Announcement, Daniel is still a self-absorbed moron who can't take any criticism. When I constantly asked why things where not getting done, he gave me half-hearted excuses. The fact that when the bullshitting stop they quickly got a working beta up and running, only proves what I have been saying all along. And I bet you anything that they still think they are above criticism, because everyone else still drinks the "Daniel Can't Do No Wrong" Kool-Aid. I have personally not seen one person criticize Daniel for taking over two years to get off his ass and do something. Not that he did anything, it was almost all Elliot (bean-with-bacon).

So on that sad note, I will give Codexed an epic failing grade. Not only has the leadership kept failing the commuity time and again, but that they totally have sold-out the dream of DX in order to become more mainstream. Here, and only here, the sprit of Diary-X stays alive. I just wish people there (who already know how to use HTML, CSS, and Java) would just realized that they don't need Codexed.

Well, see ya' later!
