Wok: *protests*
Are you protesting July 4th, because there is a Republican in office? And what exactly are you protesting?
People like you, sicken me to no end. I celebrated Independence Day even while Clinton was in office. Independence Day isn't a celebration about the US Government or even America, not in the abstract. The Fouth of July is about raising up against tyranny and oppression. If it wasn't for the brave men and the Declaration of Independence, there would be no such thing as free speech or democracy in this world today.
Protest all you want, but know that you protest freedom and independence. However I think your avatar says it all. Communism is by definition, oppression. Oppression of religion, oppression of free market, and the oppression of will of the people; it is all part of Communism.
Everyone has the right to protest, but I also have the right to call you complete asshole and Commie fucktard for protesting the Fourth of July. For only those fucks would protest Independence Day.
"We may hope that our leaders and our government stand up for our ideals, and there are many times in our history when that's occurred. But when our laws, our leaders or our government are out of alignment with our ideals, then the dissent of ordinary Americans may prove to be one of the truest expression of patriotism." -Sen Barack Obama
If Obama is elected, I wonder how long "dissent is the highest form of patriotism" will last as a liberal meme.
Some liberals cross the line of simple dissent, they actively root for America to fail and work towards that goal. This is not only true for Iraq, but in everything we are involved in. They want to strip the current president of all his powers to fight the war on terror, yet all they are doing is servilely handicaping Obama if he is elected.
That is not dissent, it is treasonous.
If Obama wins, I will do all I can in speaking out against Obama's polices that I don't agree with. However if they are put into place, I will try to do my part and make sure they succeed. This is because I do not America to fail in anything she does.
So people say that they do not trust their government. I completely agree. You should never trust the government. True patriotism comes in believing in your country. Laws are not set in stone and can be repeal if they are shown to be bad law. The perfect example of this is 18th Amendment, bad law repealed by the 21st Amendment. True patriotism comes from asking what you can do for your country, not asking what your country can do for you. John F. Kennedy, the greatest Democrat to ever hold the office of President of the United States, understood this great need serve and was part of his Inaugural Address:
"In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility - I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it - and the glow from that fire can truly light the world. And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." -President John F. Kennedy
If Obama thinks dissent is the true form of patriotism, then he is sorely mistaken. True patriotism comes from working towards the success of America. If working for Universal Health Care is your defination of a successful America, (and while I may disagree with you) then you are a patriot in my eyes.
So, are you working for the success of America or it's downfall?
